During my recent house move, I found my hard-won fencing colours from when I was Captain of the Ladies Fencing Team, many, many moons ago.
The discovery prompted me to retrieve my foils from the attic where they’ve been gathering dust.
A fast-moving dance between two opponents, fencing is a graceful sport based on wit, poise, and speed, rather than physical bulk, which is probably why I chose it.
I resolved to brush off my kit, and get back out there to see if I can reinstate this lost skill. Even if my reflexes are not what they used to be, if I can reclaim a little of the long-lost elegance I once possessed from my prowess at this sport, I’ll be content.
