It was an honour to have Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall visit Mevagissey on 15 July 2019, thanks to the hard work of our local councillor, James Mustoe. Our little village has never looked lovelier, and it was bursting with pride to welcome them.
From the fishermen, to the coastguards, the rowing club, to the NHS surgery, fellow business owners, and voluntary litter pickers who help keep our beaches and countryside looking beautiful, to the school children waving their flags, and well wishers lining the cobbled streets, to the local publicans, the whole community came together to celebrate this rare treat of having royal visitors in our midst, showing an interest in our various endeavours.
I’m so pleased that The Duke of Cornwall enjoyed a tipple of rum from The Fountain Inn, a 15th Century pub in the village, and that The Duchess of Cornwall enjoyed a traditional Cornish vanilla ice cream from She Sells on the harbour front.
I’m also pleased that the sun came out, and the seagulls behaved! What a memorable day for us all here in Mevagissey to treasure.
With thanks to Sally Mitchell of Design Room Cornwall for this marvellous image of The Duke and Duchess inspecting my shop.
