Magical Thinking. What’s wrong with it? Every thought has a frequency, a vibration, an energy, and my brain is certainly prone to a little (possibly a lot…) of magical thinking. Yet at school it was frowned upon and generally discouraged. But what better pastime than the pleasurable diversion of retreating to the depths of one’s mind, and conjuring personal prestidigitation for one’s own entertainment? Even better if you can coax the reverie into reality so the magic can be shared.
I really enjoyed watching the film “Mrs Harris Goes to Paris”, starring Lesley Manville as a humble, kind, hard-working woman who not only dares to dream, but puts her ambitions into action with a combination of inimitable charm and steely determination. It was wonderful to lose myself in 115 minutes of thoroughly enjoyable unabashed froth.
Daydreaming is not a bad thing, especially in these gloomy times! Imaginations don’t cost anything, and can take you to the most amazing places. As per the song in Mary Poppins Returns (another favourite with an emphasis on embracing fantasy), “There’s Nowhere To Go But Up”.
